1st RIEd Honorary Officers Meeting a Success!

Honorary Officers of the Royal Institute of Education met on January 26, 2010 at the Royal Institution Manila Office and discussed different ideas on holding an International or national convention to voice out the deficiencies and difficulties of education in our country. The meeting was the brainchild of Royal Institution’s plan of launching at the same time immediately serving the need of putting immediate solutions on the recurring problems in Education.

Hoping for a brighter future, some of the top academicians of the country attended the meeting such as Dr. Samuel M. Salvador (Vice President  for Academic Affairs, Polytechnic University of the Philippines), Dr. Fedeserio C. Camarao (Chancellor, The University of the East Caloocan), Dr. Abner Pineda (Vice President of St. Jude College Cavite), Dr. Carmencita L. Castolo (OpenU, Polytechnic University of the Philippines), Dr. Eden O. Kelemen (Dean, College of Arts and Sciences and Education, Philippine Women’s University), Dr. Milagrina A. Gomez (Chairperson of MAEM, Polytechnic University of the Philippines), Dr. Gloria Baken Wong-Siy (Dean, College of Hospitality and Tourism Management, Trinity University of Asia), and Dr. Epifania V. Tabbada (Technological University of the Philippines).

The initial brainstorming facilitated by Dayang Celia H. Kiram, Vice President for Administration of the Royal Institution, lasted for about two hours. The group agreed that the event will be held sometime in October 2010, the exact date and place and the official theme of the event will still be discussed in the future meetings. The bold move to bring together the top notch academicians is a result of a conscious effort to help re-establish the importance of education through battling the common problems arising locally and globally. The goal, which may seem to be a long shot, is very much achievable and realistic.

As part of the pre—event preparation, they have decided to launch a forum with the Presidential aspirants in which the aspirants will have the chance to establish their platform for education at the same time the academicians will be given the same opportunity to voice out their plight facing education in the country. The date and time of the forum will still be finalized; further details will be placed on the website as soon as the status of the availability of the participants will be established.

The joint effort of Royal Institution and its officers under the Royal Institute of Education will surely make a big impact on the country’s strive for Educational empowerment on the 21st century. The campaign will boost the morale of our educators and further enhance their capabilities.
