Royal Institution’s 7th Global Congress and Conferment Ceremony, Malé, Maldives – Royal Institution, Singapore held its 7th Global Congress and Conferment Ceremony on the 7th day of May 2016 at the Hotel Jen Malé in the beautiful country of Maldives.
With a theme “Social Innovations and Inclusive Growth in Business and Industry, Education, and Public Administration”, it was a day full of knowledge and experience. Ms. Aishath Rafiyya, FRIPAr, Director of State Trading Organization plc. started the event with her opening address followed by an introduction of RI Singapore by its President, Dr. Athena Georgene Ang, FRIBA, FRICCO.
Guest speakers discussed the theme with their topics of focus, Ms. Judith Claridades, Director of Ascendens Asia Group, Singapore and Dr. Lynly Palma - de la Cuesta, Supervising Tariff Specialist of Philippine Tariff Commission, spoke on innovations in the Business Sector. Dr. Mariyam Shakeela, Chairman and CEO of Institute of Counseling and Psychotherapy & SIMPDI Group, Maldives, spoke about the Challenges for Women Leaders in the Corporate World. FDr. Samuel M. Salvador, Chancellor of RI Singapore, tackled the Education Sector while Dr. Aly Shameem, President of Civil Service Commission and H.E. Mr. Akhilesh Mishra, High Commissioner of India to Maldives, discussed the Public Administration Sector. Last but definitely not the least, Hon. Ahmed Siyam Mohamed, MP, Leader of Maldives Development Alliance (MDA) and Chairman & Managing Director of Sun Siyam Group, covered the Tourism industry.
The Global Congress was then followed by an Open Forum and the Conferment of Fellows, Senior Members, and Members. The event’s highlight was the Conferment of Maldivian Former President His Excellency, Maumoon Abdul Gayoom as Honorary Fellow, the highest and most prestigious award of the Royal Institution. Hon. Ahmed Siyam Mohamed, MP was conferred as Doctor Fellow. Forty-eight (48) professionals were conferred as Research Fellow, Fellows, Senior Members and Members of the Royal Institution, Singapore in recognition of their achievements and qualifications, medallions and certificates were given.
During the latter part of the conferment, Ms. Aishath Rafiyya, Founding President of Regional Alliance for Fostering Youth (RAFY), Deputy Leader of Maldives Development Alliance (MDA), Director of State Trading Organisation (STO) was inducted as Honorary President of the Royal Institute of Public Administrators, Singapore. The Pledge of Loyalty and Oath of office was led by Dr. Athena Georgene Ang.
The event successfully ended with a closing address from the VP, Continuing Professional Development of RI Singapore, Dr. Glenn Cabacang, FRIBA, where he highlighted the significance of the momentous occasion – a ground-breaking event in the history of the Republic of Maldives.
